for Real Dogs & Real Life

Dog Camp at Mainely Hounds is not daycare and it’s not chaos.

It’s a structured, outdoor enrichment program designed to meet dogs’ physical, mental, and emotional needs through purposeful movement, calm social exposure, and real-world experiences.

This is where dogs learn how to exist in the world, not just burn energy.

outdoor enrichment

Dog Camp provides dogs with purposeful movement, social skills, and confidence-building experiences in a carefully managed group. Your dog will experience intentional time outside with structure, supervision, and fulfillment.

01

WHAT IS IT?

Dog Camp is a small-group, trainer-led outdoor experience focused on fulfillment through movement and exploration. We promote calm social neutrality around other dogs while building confidence in natural environments.

Dogs hike, explore, rest, observe, and learn — all within a thoughtfully managed group.

Dog camp is not a free-for-all, dog park situation. Training and control can exist, and is necessary for freedom.

02

WHO’S IT FOR?

Dog Camp is a great fit for dogs who:

  • Thrive with structure and routine

  • Have moderate to high energy needs

  • Benefit from outdoor fulfillment

  • Do well with clear boundaries

**Dog Camp is by approval only to ensure safety and compatibility.

03

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

Dog Camp runs Monday–Thursday, approximately 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM.

A camp day includes:

  • Structured off-leash hiking on private land for 1-3 hours dependent on dogs and weather

  • Breaks for rest, decompression, and regulation

  • Confidence-building exposure to real-world environments

  • Dogs are transported safely in a professional setup using Ruffland Kennels and are supervised at all times.

04

WHAT’S THE CONNECTION?

Dog Camp works best when paired with training.

Many Dog Camp dogs:

Have completed Private Training

Attend Better Together Club

Use camp as ongoing enrichment and skill maintenance

Camp reinforces calm behavior, neutrality, and confidence — but it does not replace individualized training when behavior challenges are present.

How to join us…

You might be wondering…

  • No. To participate in Dog Camp, you and your dog must complete an evaluation.

This ensures all dogs and handlers have a shared foundation and helps keep sessions calm, safe, and productive.

  • Dogs need more than exercise.

    They need:

    • Space to move

    • Time to observe

    • Opportunities to regulate

    • Experiences that build confidence

Dog Camp provides that — safely, thoughtfully, and intentionally.

  • I’m always happy to help you decide. Just reach out and we can talk through whether Dog Camp is appropriate for you and your dog.
